Prayer for the New Year:

God our Father, you bring us to the threshold of another year.  Help us to face its responsibilities, joys, and sorrows with the conviction of your constant love.  We are sorry for the unfaithfulness of the past:  wasted time, destructiveness, and failure to live up to our baptismal commitment.  Confident of your forgiveness, we willingly forgive those who have wronged us.  May each day’s thoughts, words, and actions bring us to everlasting life, where we will praise you and Jesus and the Holy Spirit for ever.

Very important web site to help Catholics not participating:

Hurt and alienated Catholics may find reconciliation in time for Midnight Mass at the award-winning website www.onccatholic.org .  Sponsored by the Franciscans at St. Anthony Messenger Press, it offers an easy entry point to the process of coming back to Church with information on topics such as divorce, abortion and Church teachings.  It also includes a conference area staffed by pastoral ministers who can discuss concerns that may have caused the upset.

Very Important web site for all married www.foryourmarriage.org sponsored by the Catholic Church with daily thoughts, book services, interviews etc.  Please watch daily to help your marriage.

All SUPPORT SACRED HEART RAFFLE—Only a few weeks remain! Prizes totaling $2,550, with a $1,000 1st prize.  Drawing on February 16, 2008.  You DO NOT have to be present to win.  The seller of the 1st prize ticket will receive $100.  Please take some tickets to sell to your friends.  They make great birthday and Christmas presents.  Please return stubs and money as soon as they are sold.  Please mail in or put into the collection your returned raffle tickets.  If you can’t  purchase the tickets please return them to us.  This supports our new school assessment of approximately $14,000 for catholic schools..

Marriage Moment:  What’s the number one enemy of love?  According to relationship coach, Gary Smalley, it’s unresolved anger.  Since you can’t guarantee you’ll never feel angry, it’s best to work on the other end—resolving it constructively and lovingly.  What’s your individual and couple strategy?  Share about this.

Parenting Perspective:  When your child makes a mistake, fails at something, or simply has some bad luck, teach the skill of “recovery.”  This is more valuable in life than just being lucky.  Recovery means you figure out how to make amends and what to do to prevent the problem in the future.  Share how this has worked for you as well.  It is a great opportunity.

Studies published in the journals Cell and Science offer new hope for advancing stem cell research and therapies while fully respecting the dignity of human life.  Scientists in Japan and Wisconsin used four genes to “reprogram” ordinary adult human cells, creating “induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells)…   Thus the goal sought for years through failed attempts at human cloning—the production of “pluripotent” stem cells that are an exact match to a patient—has been brought within reach by an ethical procedure.  The technology avoids the ethical landmines associated with embryonic stem cell research: it does not clone or destroy human embryos, (and) does not harm or exploit women for their eggs…  This advance reminds us once again that medical progress and respect for human life are not in conflict…   Cardinal Justin Rigali.

Please notify Fr. Joe when a person expects to go to the hospital or in the hospital.  Otherwise father does not know that a parishioner is hospitalized.

Please use our library  located at the side entrance of the church .  There are many great books, magazines and tapes for the whole family simply return them when you are done with them.

Sacred Heart of Jesus we place our trust in you!
